ADDIS ABEBA – Innovation and Technology Minister announced on Thursday it will award one million Br prize for the winner of this year’s innovative tech startup competition.
Over 2,000 people have submitted their innovative ideas and technologies to take part in the competition.
Out of this, 120 will reach for the final round, said Getahun Mekuria, Minister of Innovation and Technology. The winner will be announced on the final day of ICT Expo Ethiopia.
This year’s four-day-long expo will be held at Addis Abeba’s Millennium Hall, starting from June 6.
The Minister said the winner will receive the prize at the hands of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in an event to be held at African Union’s headquarters.
ICT EXPO Ethiopia is Ethiopia’s largest and most extensive ICT Exhibition, Conference, and Summit.
The ministry said next month’s event will involve enterprise solutions to large telecom operators and brings the latest technology innovations to benefit organizations operating or planning to engage in the expanding Ethiopian market.
“The expo also aims to make Ethiopia the country of tech startups,” said minister Getahun.
Big software, Hardwar, Academic and research governmental, local and foreign companies will participate in the expo which is expected to draw more than 200,000 visitors.
