Ethiopia Secures Fifth Gold Medal at African Games

Ethiopia has secured its fifth gold medal at the African Games, taking place in Ghana.

Athlete Misgana Wakuma won the gold medal on Wednesday, finishing the men’s 20km walking race in 1:28.05. Sintayehu Masre also grabbed the silver in the Women’s event, clocking in 1:38.07.

Ethiopia’s first gold medal of the Games was scooped by Samuel Firewu in the men’s 3000m steeplechase

Samuel charged down the finish straight to take the win in 8:24.30, with Kenya’s Amos Serem and Simon Kiprop settling for silver and bronze respectively in 8:25.77 and 8:26.19.

On Tuesday, World U20 champion Medina Eisa also led Ethiopia’s medal sweep in the women’s 5000m.

Medina clocked 15:04.32 for gold, Birtukan Molla posted a lifetime best of 15:05.32 in second, while Melknat Wudu ran 15:07.04 for third.

Tsige Duguma brought Ethiopia’s third gold medal in her win in the women’s 800m.

Tsige took the victory in 1:57.73, improving her 800m lifetime best of 1:58.35 that she set to secure her world indoor title in Glasgow.

There was another win for Ethiopia in the men’s 10,000m.

Nimret Melak and his compatriot Gemechu Dida claimed the gold and silver medals, clocking 29:45.37 and 29:45.68, respectively.

The African Games 2024 is taking place in Ghana.
