Demeke Confers with Chinese Special Envoy for Horn of Africa

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen on Monday held talks with China’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Ambassador Xue Bing.

During their discussion, Demeke reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to work for the realization of the newly entered all-weather strategic partnership with China.

The Minister further appreciated the continued development assistance of China to Ethiopia in various fields and its constructive role in addressing security, development, and governance challenges in Africa

Demeke also commended China’s principled support in multilateral forums, underscoring its support for Ethiopia to join the BRICS.

China’s Special Envoy Xue commended the efforts made by the Government of Ethiopia to elevate the bilateral relationship between the two countries to the level of an all-weather strategic partnership.

Xhe emphasized the role of Ethiopia in maintaining peace and development in the Horn of Africa and affirmed that the implementation of the peace process in the country is encouraging. He also underscored the need to hold the second China-Horn of Africa Peace, Good Governance and Development Conference.
