Yango Partners ShuuFare to Launch Ride-hailing Service in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – International tech company Yango and its Ethiopian partner ShuuFare, a subsidiary of G2G IT Group, officially launched a ride-hailing service in Addis Ababa.

The launch, hosted at the Hilton Addis, marks a milestone in Ethiopia’s transportation landscape, bringing the renowned international raid-hailing brand to the local market.

“We are thrilled to introduce Yango’s world-class ride-hailing service to Ethiopia through our collaboration with ShuuFare,” Yekenalem Abebe, Country Manager for Yango.

The new entrant will compete with already established Ride, Feres, and other local raid-hailing companies in the rapidly growing industry.

Yango hopes to tap into its global experience with that of ShuuFare’s understanding of the local market to break into the Ethiopian market.

“By marrying Yango’s state-of-the-art app, designed to benefit local drivers and app users, with ShuuFare’s deep understanding of the Ethiopian market,” Yekenalem said, “we firmly believe that our service will not just meet, but exceed the expectations of our customers, thereby transforming their transportation experience.”

Yango’s ride-hailing service is already operational in numerous countries across Europe, Central Asia, South America, the Middle East, and Africa.

Its latest partnership ShuuFare – first announced a month ago – expands Yango’s footprint to thirteen African countries, including Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, Zambia, Angola, Congo Brazzaville, the DR Congo, Mozambique, Algeria, and Morocco.

In Ethiopia, “ the launch signifies a significant leap forward for the ride-hailing industry” said Tedros Mehari, Chief Technology Officer at G2G IT Group.

G2G IT Group is designated the franchise holder, assuming responsibility for overseeing Yango’s service operations across the country.

“In collaboration with Yango, we are dedicated to delivering a cutting-edge, reliable, and customer-centric ride-hailing service that will revolutionize how people move around in Ethiopia,” Tedros said.

Yango’s mobile app, downloadable for free on both iOS and Android devices and available in multiple languages, including Amharic, empowers users to easily request a ride. Its geolocation feature seamlessly connects users with the nearest available driver.

Initially operating as a cash-only service, Yango plans to integrate with popular local payment solutions such as Telebirr to support Ethiopia’s ongoing digitization efforts.
