EEP Plans for 62-storey HQ in Addis Ababa

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) is set to build a new 62-storey headquarters at the center of Addis Ababa.

The 450 million US Dollars construction project will be built at EEP’s premises located around Mexico Square.

The firm is now designing the headquarters as per the Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) Certification standards, a globally recognized “green” building rating system.

The Project leader Tadele Hailu says it is being designed in a way that meets the LEED Gold Certification and will integrate energy-efficient technologies, green spaces in and around the building, and more.

As soon as the designing phase is concluded in early January, the EEP will proceed with the process of hiring the main contractor.

The construction project on an area of 197,800-meter square is scheduled to be completed in four years, per EEP.

The planned skyscraper will have a 327.5-meter height.

This will surpass the current tallest building in Ethiopia, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) Tower, with a 209-meter height.
