ADDIS ABABA – The State Council of Amhara region has elected Arega Kebede as the new president of the regional administration today.
The vote took place during the Council’s first extraordinary session of the year in Bahir Dar City on Friday afternoon.
Arega replaced Dr. Yilkal Kefale who tendered his resignation after serving as governor of the region for the past twenty-three months.
The State Council accepted Yilkal’s designation request and elected Arega, the head of the region’s Labour and Skills Bureau, as the new president.
Arega was sworn into office at the extraordinary session convened to discuss the current peace and security situation of the region that went through a deadly conflict earlier this month.
