Ethiopia Renews Air Service Deal with Hungary 

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia and Hungary have signed a new air service agreement, expanding flight frequencies between the two countries.

The Director General of the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) Getachew Mengstie, and his Hungarian counterpart, Mate Lowinger, signed the deal on Monday.

The deal renewed the 1965 bilateral aviation deal on the basis of the development of the sector and commercial opportunities for the designated airlines of each side, per ECAA.

Prior to the signing, the Authority says, discussions over the air service agreement were held, involving officials of the two countries’ carriers.

The agreement allows the two airlines to operate 7 passenger and unlimited cargo flights each between Ethiopia and Hungary.

The fifth freedom flights are also permitted under the new agreement, allowing Ethiopian Airlines to put down and take on in Hungary for traffic, for unlimited cargo and 3 passenger flights. from or destined to a third state.

The renewed air services agreement has temporarily become effective as of Monday, August 14, 2023.

This would create a huge market opportunity for Ethiopian Airlines, says the aviation authority. The airline currently has more than 20 European destinations in its international flight network.
