At least 3 killed in North Shoa Road accident, Police say

ADDIS ABABA – At least three people were killed in a road accident in North Shoa zone of Amhara region, according to a police report on Sunday.

The Amhara police commission says the crash involving a ‘Hi Roof’ minibus occurred in Minjar Shenkora district on Saturday afternoon.

The minbus was taking 15 passengers from Adama to Arerti when it overturned and crashed, killing at least three people.

Twelve others also sustained light and heavy injuries. They are now receiving treatment at the Arerti hospital, police said on Sunday.

The Police who blamed the latest fatal crash on speeding, urged drivers to refrain from going beyond the speed limit.

In the last 11 months, more than 2290 people have become victims of road accidents in Amhara region, up by 14.14% from the same months last year.

About 820 of the victims lost their lives, says the regional traffic police report that blamed drivers for 81% of the road total crashes in the region.

A total of 530,000 drivers have been penalized for violating traffic regulations in the first eleven months of the concluding budget year.
