Five Passengers Killed in Metema District Car Crash
At least five passengers have been killed in a Metema district traffic accident involving a minibus, the Amhara police commission said on Saturday.
The fatal accident happened around 04:00 a.m. Saturday morning at Metema District.
The minibus, licensed with Am-19048 plate number, veered off the road and overturned in Awlala kebele of the district.
Five passengers were pronounced dead on the spot, according to the police report.
Seven other passengers also sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident, the report added.
The passengers in the minibus, locally known as ‘Abadula’, were traveling from Gondar to Genda-Wuha town when the accident happened.
The cause of its crash has not been determined yet, according to the Police, who opened an investigation into the case.
Reports say road traffic accidents are the main cause of most injury-related deaths in Ethiopia.
Drivers’ and pedestrians’ lack of awareness, poor technical inspections of vehicles, and older vehicles are among the reasons often blamed for road crashes.
