Govt Obtains 163 Billion Birr in Four-Month Tax Revenues

ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Revenues says it has collected 162.99 billion Birr in tax revenues in the first four months of the 2022/23 Ethiopian fiscal year.

The amount is 39.04 or 31.5% higher than the revenues obtained in the same months last year.

Despite the increase, tax officials who reviewed their four-month performance plan on Monday nearly missed their target for the period.

Domestic taxes has continued to contribute to the government’s tax revenues.

The remaining 57.7 billion Birr was also obtained from export tax and customs duties.

The Ministry, responsible for the national tax administration, also doubled down on auditing.

“This has enabled us to save about 11.17 billion Birr from frauds trying to evade taxes,” said Fekadu Tadese, director of plan and project administration at the Ministry.

His office also collected 12.7 billion birr tax debt, achieving 114.5% of the initial plan set at 11.1 billion Birr.
