ADDIS ABABA – Ethio telecom and Information Network Security Administration (INSA) have today launched an integrated water service bill payment service via telebirr and Derash payment platform.
The two institutions singed an agreement agreement today, allowing Telebirr subscribers residing in Arba Minch, Harari, Bahir Dar, Finote Selam, Injibara, Dessie and Kombolcha towns can settle their water and sewerage service payments through Derash integrated payment platform.
The newly launched payment service will also enhance water and sewerage service providing institutions to collect their customers’ monthly bill efficiently, said the telco firm.
“Likewise, it will also enable customers to settle their bills remotely and anywhere at their convenience and will propel the culture of cashless payments,” the telecom firm said.
The telebirr payment system has now over 19 million subscribers, more than 82 master agents, over 67 thousand agents and more than 17 thousand merchants within a short span of time.
The system is currently integrated with 12 banks to transfer money from bank to telebirr and with 10 banks to transfer money from telebirr to bank. Over 16.2 billion-birr transactions have been made since its launch.
Apart from the seven cities, the company said it will continue to implement water bill payment system, integrated with Derash integrated payment platform, to the rest 34 more cities and town.
