COVID: Active Cases Tally Drops Below 50,000 as More Recover

ADDIS ABABA – The confirmed active case pool in Ethiopia has dropped below 50, 000 mark after is ministry of health reported a significant number of Covid-19 recoveries on Wednesday.

The active cases surpassed the mark on December 21, 2021 during which the pandemic was at its peak.

In its daily report on Wednesday evening, the Ministry says 1, 684 patients have recuperated from the acute respiratory disease caused by Coronavirus in the past twenty-four hours.

The figure takes the number of patients recovered so far to 411, 591, and the active cases tally to 49, 456, according to the report.

In the same period, Ethiopia has also registered 69 new Covid-19 infections while five patients succumbed to the virus. The death toll now stands at 7,446.

Currently, there are 102 severely sick Covid patients in the nation, reports the ministry.

Vaccine Drive

Despite the recent drop in new cases, health officials are still urging the public to observe the Covid protocol including wearing facemasks to protect themselves and their families.

At the same time, they are stepping up the nation wide vaccine drive.

In the last 24-hours, more than a million doses of Covid vaccine have been administered across the nation, the report claims.

This has pushed the total doses administered in the country to more than 21.8 million while taking the number of people who received a second vaccine shot to a little over 18 million.

The East African nation identified its first Coronavirus case in March 2020. Since then, it has confirmed 668, 495 cases from more than 4.48 million tests conducted so far.
