Ethiopia A Game Away from Qualifying for FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian ladies edged closer to 2022 FIFA Under-20 World Cup qualification with a 2-1 aggregate win over Tanzania on Friday.

The team cruised into the final round of qualifiers for Costa Rica 2020 after beating Tanzania 2-0 in the second leg match played in Addis Ababa.

The visitors started the game at Bikila Stadium, carrying a 1-0 advantage from the first leg meeting in Tanzania on 23 January 2022.

Ethiopia leveled the tie on aggregate thanks to a first-half goal from Rediet Aseresahgn.

The same player scored the second goal in the second half, securing Ethiopia’s place in the fifth and final round of the African qualifiers for the U20 Women’s World Cup.

Ethiopia will now face off with the aggregate winner between Uganda and Ghana.

The second leg match between the two teams will be held on Saturday in Ghana who has a 2-1 advantage from the first game.
