Ethiopia Registers 1, 352 New Covid-19 Cases, 40 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 1, 352 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Friday, pushing the national confirmed tally close to 340, 000, reveals the ministry of health.

The country tested a total of 9, 468 people in the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive case, says the ministry in its report for the day.

A further 40 people have also died due to Covid-19 in the same period, taking the death toll to 5, 331.
Currently, there are 813 critically ill patients in the ICU, reports the ministry, which puts the active case count at 28, 037.

It also says a total of 1, 065 patients have recuperated from the disease in the reported period. This has brought the total recovery tally to 306, 288.

Unlike most African countries where new Covid-19 cases in downward trend, more cases are being confirmed in Ethiopia

The East African nation has so far identified a total of 339, 658 infections after conducting close to 3.43 million tests.

Its health officials are urging the public to continue to wear face masks, practice social distancing and proper hand washing.

The public is also urged to take the Covid-19 vaccine made available in several health stations as part of the ongoing mass vaccination campaign.

On Friday, the country offered more than 33, 200 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to the public, according to the ministry of health’s report.

Ethiopia launched the vaccination campaign on March 13, 2021. To date, it has vaccinated more than 2.75 million people against Covid-19.
