ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 1,458 new novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Friday, pushing the confirmed case tally to more than 303, 000.
In its daily Covid-19 report, the Ministry of Health says close to 9, 300 people have been tested in the last twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases.
A further 12 patients have also died due to the acute respiratory illness in the reported period.
The fresh daily fatalities has brought the Covid-19 death toll in the country to 4,618, according to the daily report.
It also shows the rise in the number of severe cases with 18 more patients hospitalised in the the day.
Ethiopia currently has 25, 892 confirmed active cases, and of these, 580 are severely sick.
The report also indicates as many as 840 Covid-19 patients have recuperated from the disease in the 24-hours period.
The East African nation confirmed its first coronavirus case in March 13, 2020. Since then, it has conducted more than 3.2 million tests to confirm 303,171 infections.
About 272,659 of the infected people have already recovered, health officials report.
Rise in Vaccination
The country has continued to push ahead with its immunization campaign on Friday with number picking up significantly in the recent days.
In the reported period, 33,430 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19, the data from the ministry shows.
Ethiopia launched the vaccination campaign on March 13, this year – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
To date, its health ministry has provided nearly 2.43 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the public.
