Ethiopia Surpasses 300, 000 Confirmed Covid-19 Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia surpassed 300, 000 coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Wednesday after adding 2, 095 new cases.

In its daily report, the ministry of health says more than 10,800 people have been tested in the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases whose tally is the highest the country has recorded in a single day in more than four months.



The previous highest daily total was reported in the country on April 25, during which the ministry confirmed 2, 121 infections after conducting 7,757 tests.

A further 13 people have also died due the acute respiratory diseases in the past 24-hours, pushing the national death toll to 4,593.

The severe cases tally has jumped by 22 as compared to the previous day.

There are now 532 seriously sick Covid-19 patients who are receiving medical attention in hospitals, says the report which puts the confirmed active cases tally at 24,385.

As many as 282 patients have recuperated from the disease on Wednesday, the lowest the ministry has reported in the past week.

Ethiopia has conducted nearly 3.2 million tests to confirm 300,092 infections. About 271,112 of the infected people have already recovered.

As part of an effort to control the pandemic, the country is pushing ahead with its immunization campaign.

At least 13, 368 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19, bringing the total number of vaccine doses offered in the country to nearly 2.4 million.

Ethiopia launched the vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
