COVID-19: Ethiopia Records 82 More Cases, 1 Death

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded additional 82 novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Wednesday, taking the national confirmed cases tally to nearly 178, 000, says the Ministry of Health.

A total of  3, 750 people have been tested to identify the new cases in the past twenty-four hours.

The daily Covid-19 report reveals a further one patient has also died due to the acute respiratory disease on the same period, bringing the death national death toll to 4, 360.

The number of severely sick patients has jumped by nine as compared to the previous 24-hours.
There are 153 severely ill patients are receiving medical treatment in hospitals, claims the report that puts the active cases count in Ethiopia at 11, 009.

According to the report, only 38 patients have recuperated from the respiratory disease, pushing the recovery tally to 262, 588.

Ethiopia reported its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, last year. To date, it has confirmed over 177, 959 cases after testing close to 2.97 million people.

The country has continued to go ahead with its immunization campaign on Wednesday as part of its response to control the pandemic.

The report says at least 3, 000 people have received vaccines against the Covid-19, taking the number vaccines administrated in the country to 2, 147, 638.

Ethiopia launched its vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after the country received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

Since then, the country obtained additional 400, 000 AstraZeneca vaccine from the COVAX as well as 500, 000 doses of Covid-19 Sinopharm and 453, 600 Doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine doses from the governments of China and the United States, respectively.
