COVID-19 case tally Exceeds 160,000

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 841 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the nationwide tally to 160,813, ministry of health reported.

Health officials conducted over 6, 000 tested during the day to identify the new positive cases of Covid-19, which is caused by the deadly virus called Coronavirus.



Additional 13 people have passed away due to the virus in the same period, bringing the national death toll to 2,386.

The government has been urging the public to continue taking precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus with the number of confirmed cases surpassed 20, 000 mark last week.

There are now 22, 346 confirmed active cases in Ethiopia. Of which, 366 patients have been hospitalized after they become severely ill.

On Tuesday, health officials also reported 902 more recoveries, taking the national count of COVID-19 recoveries to 136,079.

Ethiopia, Africa’s second most populous nation, has so far reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the East African region after testing conducting 2,146,457 COVID-19 tests.
