Ethiopia Records 27 Covid-related Deaths over the Weekend

ADDIS ABEBA – At least 27 people have passed away due to covid-19 in Ethiopia over the past two days, according to a data from Ministry of Health.

About 1, 647 people have died due to the virus since the country reported the first two deaths of patients suffering from COVID-19 on April 2, 2020.

The Ministry of Health also said the number of infections in the country has increased by more than 900 cases over the weekend.

The new positive cases were identified after the country conducted 10, 082 tests over the past 48-hours.

The country now has 38, 445 active cases of Covid-19 – a respiratory disease caused by coronavirus. Of these, 333 patients are currently hospitalized after getting severely ill, according to the Ministry’s report on Sunday.

It also noted at least 366 patients have recuperated from the disease in the past two days, bringing the total number of recoveries 65, 691.

Ethiopia confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on March 13. Since then, health officials have tested nearly 1.6 million people for the virus and confirmed 105, 785 cases.
