ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopia Road Authority and twelve signed twelve construction agreements to build 12 roads at cost of 19.9 billion birr.
According to the agreements signed on Tuesday, the contractors will build a total length of 825.23 kilometers roads, the authority said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Six of the contractors are local contractors and the remaining four are international contractors.
These include Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICC), China Wu Yi Co. Ltd, Shandong Luqiao Group Co. Ltd, Samson Chernet General Contractor, PowerCon Construction and ASER Construction Plc., Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC), and Amhara Road Works Enterprise, among others.
The cost of 10 construction projects will be covered by the Ethiopian government and the rest two projects will be funded via loan gained from the World Bank.
The constructions also include small, large drainage pipes and bridges.
When the contraction is completed, the roads will alleviate the problem of transportation in the area and create a good environment for the local community to move freely, according to the authority.
Furthermore, it connects states from regions as well as zones and woredas within region. Among the roads signed, there are also roads leading to neighboring countries, which makes their national interest even greater, the authority added.
The projects are expected to be completed between one year and a half to four years, according to the statement.
