Ethiopia Records 157 New Coronavirus infections, 298 recoveries
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia on Monday recorded 157 new coronavirus infections, taking the total to 5846, reported the Ministry of Health.
The ministry, after conducting 3693 tests over the past 24 hours, identified 89 male and 60 female positive cases of COVID-19, a respiratory illness caused by coronavirus.
All except one are Ethiopian nationals with their age ranging from 1 to 80 years.
Addis Ababa, the epicenter of the coronavirus, reported 132 cases. Amhara, Afar, and Dire Dawa city recorded five each.
’35 in severe condition’
Tigray (3), Somali (3), Oromia (3) and Benishangul-Gumuz regional states reported the remaining case.
There were 5 new deaths, taking the total to 103, the Ministry of Health said in its daily report.
A ten-year-old boy from Tigray is among those who died. The remaining deaths reported from Addis Abeba.
Currently, there are 3, 311 confirmed active cases in the country. Of these, 35 are in severe conditions, health officials reported.
Record Recoveries
The ministry of health reported at least 298 people have recovered from the disease.
Addis Ababa and Somali region reported the majority of the cases with their health officials reporting 200 and 87 recovery cases, respectively.
The rest of the recoveries are from Amhara (9), Oromia (1) and Dire Dawa city (1).
The East African nation, which reported the first case on March 13, has tested more than 250, 000 individuals, and confirmed 5, 846 cases including more than 100 deaths.
