ADDIS ABEBA –Ethiopia’s capital is set to host the first edition of International Textile Machinery Exhibition (ITME) Africa 2020.
The event, scheduled to be held at Millennium Hall from Feb 14 to 16, will exhibit textile products, services and technologies from over 60 countries.
Major textile-producing companies from India, U.S., Mexico, China and others, will be among them, according to the organizers. Ethiopia small and medium enterprises (SME’s) too will partake in the exhibition.
India ITME Society will organize the event in collaboration with the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association (ECCSA). ITME hosts a similar event that focuses on textile technologies annually.
“Ethiopia is the fasts growing country in Africa. That’s why we chose Ethiopia to host the event,” said S. Hari Shankar, Chairman of India ITEM Society.
This will bring technology investment to Ethiopia and help the textile industry overall, Shankar said.
President of ECCSA, Engineer MelakuEzezew, on his part, said“thought provoking” seminars and B2B meetings will part of ITME Africa 2020.
“It will also be an excellent opportunity for expanding export and connecting to new textile markets in Africa,” Melaku said.
Foreign investment in the textile industry has risen from 4.5 billion birr ($166.5 million) in 2013/14 to 36.8 billion in 2016/17.
The government expects the event to create business networking platforms between Africa and other largest countries.
The companies will introduce their textile solutions and technologies, said Teka Gebreyesus, the state ministry of trade and industry.
