Ethiopia Records 119 More Coronavirus; 4 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 119 additional coronavirus infections on Sunday, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 5, 689.

The Ministry of Health identified 73 male and 46 female patients after conducting 3895 tests over the past twenty-four hours.



Three foreigners are among the new cases, indicates the Ministry’s daily report, which also claims the remaining 116 patients are Ethiopian nationals.

Their age ranges from one to 80 years, according to the Ministry of Health. Ninety-nine of them are residents of Addis Ababa. Harari (7), Tigray (5), Somali (4), Oromia (3), and Amhara (1) regional states reported the rest.

Five Deaths reported 

The ministry also reported the death of four people due to COVID-19 over the past twenty-four hours.

Among 87 post mortem laboratory tested conducted, four have been confirmed positive for coronavirus. They are residents of Addis Ababa city (2) as well as Oromia and Harari regional states.

No death reported from COVID-19 health centers.

Currently, there are 3458 active cases. Of these, 33 patients are in severe conditions, according to health officials.

More recoveries

Health officials also said 117 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease. Addis Ababa and Tigray recorded the majority of recovery cases with two reporting 78 and 35 cases, respectively.

Four patients in Dire Dawa have recuperated, according to the report.

To date, 2132 patients have recovered from the deadly disease in Ethiopia.

The East African nation tested a total of 246, 911 individuals and has, so far, confirmed 5, 689 cases including 98 Ethiopians.
